Winter time in central texas

Things have been a little wacky here in Central Texas this winter! The weather for one. Some of the facial expressions in these pictures are suspect.... Most recently the soft plastic bite has been on fire! Wacky Worms have been the name of the game. Green and white Senkos to be exact, produced in major way over the weekend on the Colorado and San Marcos. Small streamers in white produced a few strikes, but the fish have really been keyed in on the slower presentation associated with soft plastics. A minor cold front Saturday afternoon caused the San Marcos to fish slow. We managed a few fish on streamers like the Lunch Money and Sparkle Minnow. Captain Longarm was in full force on Sunday on the Lower Colorado. Senkos were the name of the game producing some aggressive strikes. Ten fish were brought to the net, with the largest being a hard fighting Largemouth pushing the scales at 4.2 pounds. The San Marcos turned on Monday afternoon with almost constant action from Guadalupe Bass in the riffles.

This weekend we did our second overnighter of the spring. Since we landed all the nice fish last time, it would only make since that the fishing gods would bring us back down to earth....you guessed it, we lost all the big ones this weekend! Similiar pre-frontal conditions made Saturday afternoon action packed. White poppers got some violent strikes from large sows, we just couldn't land one! Uuuggghhh! I guess those are the breaks? Amazing takes, jumps, and LDR's(long distance releases) were still awesome to behold. Gail force winds Sunday made fishing almost impossible, but we still managed to catch a few, mainly on cream colored senkos. Congrats to Ethan, he was the big winner, catching a bass for each year of his life Saturday! Ten!

Floated with Bob Weaver from Martindale down to Staples. Fish were very picky, following and carefully inspecting our offerings, before casually swimming away. Managed to catch some fiesty guads and a nice bucketmouth. Poppers, black and white streamers, and senkos all worked.

Floated two days from Webberville to Utley. Pre-frontal conditions Saturday made the fishing red hot! Fishing really turned on mid day, frog poppers and senkos were the ticket. Toddy caught the Gruene Trout of his life! We saw the entire explosion, it was so violent that three feet of slack was thrown into his line. He had to pick up all the slack before he set the hook. She jumped five times, run under the raft, ran around the raft, and pulled drag off the reel. Amazing!!! Sunday morning the cold front blew through and blue bird skies prevailed. The largemouth bite was non-existant, but the Guads were on fire! White streamers were all we used and had constant action.

Fished the San Marcos in Martindale today with Brian Calvin. Fishing really turned on mid afternoon after a brief rain. Poppers were the ticket and the bass were aggressive!
